Mary F. Handy Women's Missionary Society
We are called to strengthen our faith and sent to continue the ministry of Jesus Christ by witness and service to the world.
Our WMS namesake, Mrs. Mary F. Handy, was identified with the Women's Mite Missionary Society and the Parent Mite Society for many years. She was elected president of the Parent Body when the Quadrennial Session was held in Trinity AME Church, Baltimore and continued to be re-elected. Today, the Mary F. Handy WMS is becoming more and more involved in the community.
The WMS is being tasked to meet the needs of not only the African American Community but to all who are in need. For the past 19 years we have distributed Thanksgiving baskets to over 150 needy families, seniors and shut-in annually. The Church of Mary Magdalene luncheon and gifts are prepared for 60+ women annually.
The Emergency Feeding Program provides nutritionally customized grocery bags weekly to those in need, with over 300 families served since the program's inception in June 2003. Christmas gifts, sick/shut-in visitations & gifts, tutoring/mentoring children, emergency financial assistance, and aids care team.
"Now there are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service in the church, but it is the same Lord we are serving. There are different ways God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work through all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church." I Corinthians 12:4-7
